Product Development Engineer - 1st shift

1st Shift, Monday - Friday, 8AM - 4:30PM
$85-$110K

Duties:
  • Assist in developing detailed project scope of work documents.
  • Project planning and management to assure projects are completed on time.
  • Develop concepts for new product designs or improvements as needed.  
  • Hold design review meetings to determine best execution of prototyping and testing. 
  • Select appropriate materials and develop material specifications.
  • Work with FEA models, internal and external testing of materials and assemblies.
  • Perform engineering calculations on material stress and performance metrics such as inertial loading, speed and fatigue life.
  • Develop control systems and parameters.
  • Hands-on prototype building, assembly, and testing.     
  • Develop and execute test plans.
  • Assist with manufacturing process development and training; includes workstation development, process flow planning, line balancing, capacity planning, and quality control planning.
Required skills/competencies:
  • Good internal communication skills and collaborative teamwork approach
  • Scientific mindset and methodology in developing test protocols.  
  • Skilled in hands-on prototyping.        
  • Comfortable with hand tools and basic wood and metal fabrication.  
  • Good understanding of industrial electrical systems up to 480V three phase.  
  • PLC and microprocessor control system experience.
  • Creative thinking and problem solving    
  • Strong technical writing abilities
  • Skilled in the use of computer aided design software SolidWorks
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Use of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and other principles to decrease the cost and complexity of manufacturing
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering documents, such as drawings, schedules, and routings.  Ability to create, read and modify electrical schematics and ladder diagrams for control logic of ASI products and to interface with non-ASI products.
  • Ability to create presentations and to make effective and persuasive arguments on various engineering topics to management. Ability to communicate via nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,). 
 
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 
 
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's or Graduate’s Degree in science, engineering or related technical field.  Eight or more years of related experience and or/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience in a low volume/high mix manufacturing environment desired.
 
Language Skills:  Ability to speak, read and write in English and write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
 
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to perform engineering calculations for stress, strain and life prediction.  
 
Reasoning Ability: Must be able to apply established protocols to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several variables.
 
Computer Skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Engineering design (CAD) software (SolidWorks preferred); ERP systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
