Environmental Engineer (EHS Specialist)
1st shift
$75,000 - $90,000

Job Summary
 Under the direction of the EHS Manager, the EHS Specialist is responsible for participation in development and delivery of EHS training, investigate workplace hazards, accidents and for supporting the company EHS program by providing administrative support to the department 

Essential Functions
  • Support EHS Manager with 3 local facilities for OSHA compliance programs, including, but not limited to; Working at Heights, Electrical Safety, PPE, Hearing Conservation, Machine Guarding, Lock-Out Tag-Out, Confined Space, Powered Industrial Trucks, Contractor Safety, Hazardous Waste, Hazard Recognition and Hazard Communication. 
  • Conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHA's) and Job Risk Analysis (JRA's) for various tasks. 
  • Facilitate incident investigations, root causes analysis, assign and track corrective actions to closure. 
  • Conducts Industrial Hygiene assessments, evaluations, reports, samples, and analysis.
  • Schedule and participate in ISO 14001 and 45001 audits. 
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheet (SDS), Safety Policies and other documentation as needed. 
  • Inspections including but not limited to; First Aid Kits, Eye Wash Stations, Spill Response Kits, Portable Ladders and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan. 
  • Coach and mentor individuals regarding unsafe acts or conditions. Inspire a culture of caring by speaking to "why" safety is important. 
  • Actively supporting EHS Cultural Excellence through personal responsibility for safety, health, and environment, promoting a culture to identify and address incidents, near-misses, and potential hazards. 
  • Facilitate a partnership with internal leadership to complete annual compliance evaluations.
  • Execute modest EHSS projects that includes investment allocation, concept design, scoping, initial estimates, and cross functional interfacing. 
  • Inspections including but not limited to; First Aid Kits, Eye Wash Stations, Spill Response Kits, Portable Ladders and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan. 
  • Lead, manage, and inspire company Safety Committee. 

Other Functions
  • Provide administrative support to the EHS department 
  • Complete other projects/duties as assigned 
  • Travel includes 2 locations that are within 3 miles of the Good Hope facility 

Key Competencies
  • Candidates must have strong self-motivation and time management skills 
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 
  • Working knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Local Regulations related to environmental 
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)
  • Computer literate in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to build rapport and work with a diverse group of employees at all levels of the organization and provide excellent customer service to our internal customers
  • Ability to be flexible with respect to work schedule as needed (site is 24hr operation)
  • Ability to manage and develop solid standard work practices 

Qualifications (skills, knowledge, experience)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, degree or certification in EHS related field preferred.
  • 3 years of combined experience performing risk assessments and/or incident investigation/root cause analysis preferred.
  • 3 years of combined experience in development and implementation of safety programs such as: lockout/tagout, confined space entry, flammable liquids handling and/or static management in a private, public, government or military environment preferred.
  • Analytical, leadership, project planning, program development and deployment skills 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours as needed to meet the needs of our internal customers
  • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Must have a valid driver's license, with an acceptable driving record, along with adequate insurance.
